From the way it reads it looks like it will be as FTP as any of the rest of STO's content. That's been their model since they first went FTP and I can't see them making a major change to that now... but only time will tell. As I'm a sub I'm not concerned but it will be a swift kick-in-the-privates for FTP player's if this content is restricted. BTW - did anyone else notice in the clip that there is a classic TOS warbird featured? I'm guessing that will be your starting ship... now THAT'S something I'm REALLY jazzed about!!

This whole thing looks like a big bowl of awesome sauce! It also indicates that you will now be able to start a Klingon character from level 1 (which means they MUST be adding new content of some sort to the Klingons as well). As someone in another forum pointed out this is Star Trek Online and the Federation is the center of the story... so to expect the other factions to be as complete as the Fed side is a bit unrealistic... but if they've added enough content to allow starting at Level 1 that's quite an upgrade in itself!

All in all I am SOOOOOO looking forward to this upcoming release! See everyone there!

No matter how you slice it, cryptic and PW are going to make money, so there's no need for them to make the expansion something you have to pay for. That'd just scare people off. Instead, you'll need to pay for more character slots to make your romulans, and those new romulans will need more bank slots, inventory slots, ect. No doubt they'll have their own c-store ships and fleet ships. You want lockbox items for them? It'll mean more keys sold. And so on.

I'm glad to see this coming, romulans were always my favorite antagonists in star trek. I wonder what species will be released for romulan faction besides romulans and remans. Heh, I wonder if they'll make a third cat race to go with the Feresans and Caitians. :p

I saw on the STO forums a post where someone said that BrandFlakes tweeted* (isn't that the term?) it is all free... that being said, I'm agree with verbena, they'll have new goodies on the c-store to buy.

Well I'm happy we finally got a new playable faction. Its something that a lot of said would never happen. I also hope the Klingons will get some love as well.

Now the big question is what do we call our Romulan fleet?

as for nameing the romulan fleet what other factions are their in the Verse???? it could be the alliance or what other major ones could be used

I was watching and I was like... omg please please please let me captain an Original series Warbird... and then there it was at the end of the trailer. You've probably noticed I've been absent from game. I got burned out on replaying the same content. This has me interested again. Can't wait for May.

Well, I guess we should first look at the attitude of our Romulan faction. Are our Romulans going to be the level headed, create a new home, try to work with the rest of the galaxy in co-operative harmony? Will they be neutral in many things only wishing to create and build their new home? Or will they be kind of out to build that new home yet maintain an aggressive attitude towards the galaxy?

I think this may affect how we name our Romulan fleet and such....

Thoughts, opinions, somebody else and their two cents? hehehe

Thoughts about naming: have a look at that website I posted, if you haven't yet? It sounds as if the Romulan featured content has somewhat of a freedom fighter thing going... so maybe not the Alliance! I haven't watched the video, but the premise on that website reads to me like something we could (should!) definitely DO something with.

Gordon: Puzzled. You've run out of content? do you play Foundry missions at all? You'll laugh, but I still haven't got past "Night of the Comet" on the regular Featured Episodes! Half my playing time's been spent messing around with DOff assignments and the rest is mostly Foundry stuff. It being more fun.

Hmmm, good point. It does have a feel for the freedom fighter thing. I've played a Romulan character for some time now but she hasn't been in the limelight for quite some time but that is about to be fixed real soon. the back story is connected, long and colorful but I think there are only a couple people who remember her. Anywho, all I'm saying is, I like the freedom fighter feel since that's the way I played her. She actually showed up with a squadron of warbirds to help out Serenity Station in an rp some time ago.....hehe

I think I'll toss out a thought for the name of the station. It may be corny but maybe Legacy Station? Just to start things off...hehe

I've really enjoyed reading some of the USS Immortal stuff. I look forward to seeing your Romulan about the place!

If they're going to have as much spying, politics and detective work in the Romulan faction as the website suggests, I do hope they're going to make a proper job of it this time - not just a talk-to-these-people-over-here-to-find-out-who-to-fight-next. It could be so much more fun... and maybe it would end up with giving us some more good diplomatic missions on the Federation side, too. Wow! I'm flattered that you've enjoyed the Immortal stuff. Sides from a few people, nobody else has really said anything about my stuff. lol Now, if I can get off me lazy butt, I can write up a back story that will catch Sienna's timeline to current. Hopefully, I can also find all my stuff on her....lol

I think we should consider if it's worth starting a romulan faction fleet at all. I mean, our fed fleet is pretty stagnant. Most of the time I don't see anyone else on, and our starbase progress is pretty slow. Some project have been there for like 2-3 weeeks? We've more or less stopped at tier 3. Is the klingon side faring any better?

In terms of fleet advancement, things will probably be worse (in the long run) with a third faction. PLayers' attention will be split 3 ways instead of 2. In the short term, I'm sure it'll spawn a lot of renewed activity. But each player only can play so much, so they earn only so much dil, marks, ect.

The projects that are stalled are the ones that require dilithium. I make sure not to put any projects in place that require dilithium. However there are several projects that require it and members are unable or unwilling to part with it.

Yeah, I know, that's kinda my point. We can't really move our current starbase(s) in terms of progression, if we add another fleet/starbase that'll split our resources further. That means it's likely our current progress slows even more, and our progress on the new thing would be slow, too.

Some days, its sad that Star Trek went free to play because it shifted so much. Oh well, what can one do. Move to a boot and get laced, I guess. I understand what is being said about starting a third faction but it would be nice to have it anyway. Just a place to call home when one is playing the Romulans..

As for the pesky slow speed in building a star base, well, such a thing was geared, in the end, for large groups. That was a given..
