L'Val was born on Vulcan in stardate 16790.39 (2339) from LT. Lurek, a starfleet operation officer, and her husband M'ral a Romulan refugee.
Following his mother in her missions, L'Val chose to enroll in Starfleet Accademy at the age of 22. Because he was risen on a starship he was already accustomed with human customs and didn't had as many problems to fit in as most of his fellow vulcans have. Graduated second in his class, right behind another vulcan, he was assigned for his first tour of duty on the USS Penance, a refitted Costitution-Class, as a security officer.

In stardate 45236 (2369) he was assigned by the Vulcan high command as security detachment for Ambassador Spock mission on Romulus due his stidies on the Romulan history and culture, and a mastery for their leanguage he learned from his father. On Romulus he has a chance to learn more about his romulan cousins then he have ever hoped and the experience changed him profoundly.
He postulated that while his romulan cousins where too "wild" and emotional, the vulcans were, at times, perhaps too logical. During his stay on Romulus he was able to explore those emotions he had kept under control with his Vulcan training and that slowly made him closer to a Romulan then a Vulcan. This allowed to sell their cover easier but kept him on the edge for many years since felt he was jeopardizing the mission of Ambassador Spock. With the help of the Romulans dissidents he was able to explore his emotions in a "secure" enviroment and find a balance betwen Romulan's emotions and Vulcan's logic. In 2381 when Ambassador Spock was returned to the Federation space due to the period of unrest in the Romulan Empire he was assigned to the USS Dublin as Tactical and Security Officer.
From there his abilities allowed his to rise in ranks at a good peace untill he recieved his first command in stardate 77793.75 (2400).

2361 - Admission to Starfleet Academy.

2365 - First Tour of Duty on the USS Penance. Promoted to LTJG at the end of the Tour

2369 - Assigned by the Vulcan High Command as security detachment and escort to Ambassador Spock on Romulus. Promoted to LT.

2381 - Assigned to the USS Dublin as security officer. Promoted to LCM.

2400 - Given command of his first starship, NCC-3404 USS Rubicon a USS Rubicon a Prometheus class without multivector configuration.
