New online game - Project Terran

Thought some of you might be interested in this game: Project Terran

It's a space MMORPG, currently in open beta testing (that means anyone can join, and give their feedback on what might need fixing or altering before it's released properly - quite fun because presumably they'll be more open to suggestions than a game that's already officially "started" would be). It's a browser-based game so nothing to install (definite plus in my books ;-) )

    The storyline, from the website:
Earth had faced dark times in the past, but none as dark as the 21st century. By 2020 the Earths most valuable resource became living space, closely followed by clean air and a worldwide shortage of food.

Government corruption was rampant. Alliances between countries were broken nearly as fast as they were formed. Humanity was on the brink of self-destruction. Crime was at an all-time high, & three quarters of the planet were living in poverty.

Corporations began to flex their considerable financial muscles and within a short time span became the true super powers on Earth. Meanwhile humanity scrabbled around with a second space race to place a permanent presence on the Moon and eventually colonise Mars.

Perhaps there was a divine hand in it, or maybe it was just sheer luck, but on March the 16th 2235 the defining point for humanity finally arrived. First Contact; we were not alone!

230 years later, mankind has changed so much a visitor from our past would hardly recognise it. Learning that we were far from alone in the Universe probably saved us from our own destruction. Humanity has grown and expanded, technologically, mentally & physically. Humans now spans some 100’s of worlds living side by side with dozens of Alien races.

Players choose from various "professions" for their character: currently Mining, Haulage, Merchant, Refiner, Harvester, Crafter and (coming soon) Combat Pilot. It all sounds a bit Firefly to me, though with aliens which is always fun.

The other thing that caught my attention is that it's aiming to be driven by player interaction, with most items in the game being crafted by players themselves and traded from player to player. Even the ships (except the starter one) are all player-built! Take it from a former Underlight player, heavily player-interaction-driven MMORPGs can be great fun, not quite like any ordinary bog-standard MMORPG. I'd love to see whether this one achieves that. (I haven't time to try it myself right now, I wish I had - maybe later I will, though.)
