Magpie had spent a quiet few weeks (for a starship) measuring surface chemical properties of several very remote planets under different conditions, and trying to earn a bit of money at odd jobs in between times. The kind of thing her captain, Lt Commander Ellen Hare, called "traditional Starfleet work" and Admiral Quinn called "skiving".
The ship's stores were getting very patchy now, and on one of their last experiments they'd run into some type of hydrocarbon cloud that had completely fogged up the main viewscreen camera and some of the sensors. So they were back in home space at last for repairs. Ellen hummed to herself as they picked their way across the Donatu Sector by compass.
She turned to Lt. Ylzanov. The Andorian was in civilian clothes - and very fashionable ones too - and was looking eagerly out of the viewscreen, although from the blurs that were visible they could have been approaching Risa or Pi Canis.
"Are we clear, Mirra, if you lose all your credits before the repairs are finished I am not bailing you out? And the same goes for the other delinquents, too. I didn't ask you to go to Drozana." Ellen spoke lightly, but she wasn't happy about the excursion. She'd never visited Drozana itself, but they'd once been sent on Starfleet business to a smaller and even scruffier Ferengi station off Argelius II. It hadn't gone well. Still, impulsive as the First Officer sometimes was, she had the sense not to get into serious trouble. Or at least to deal with it successfully if she did.
Mirra grinned and patted vaguely at her short silver hair. "Aye, aye, Sir!"
Lt. Phihl was frowning. "What's all this?" A cordon of ships was hazily visible around Drozana. Ellen joined him at the viewscreen. "They always had a lot of security - only time I tried to visit I got run off the place, didn't have the entrance fee. But this beats all. Hail them will you, Isry?"
It took a little fiddling at such long range, but eventually the Trill girl signalled that the connection was ready.
"USS Magpie to Drozana Station, requesting permission to dock. We've got the latinum. Over."
OOC: Seeker - I've just got into the RP usergroup. Steel River no go obviously, but any chance you could still work me into Badlands? If you think not I'll drop it. Otherwise, will copy this over to that thread and go on there - along with whatever reply Hare gets...
by the way Ensign Zita is a fun character, I hope he survives Steel River but I'm enjoying him while I can!
