What Game?

Hi there everybody! I thought I would ask what MMO (if any) everybody is playing to hold them over until STO comes out. I am currently not playing any MMOs. I recently left Eve, I was a member of a very large guild however I would spend 95% of my game time mining. And I hate mining! I like a game that you can run in, run a few missions and get out. As this is how my life currently is. A real life freind of mine is a die hard City of.. fan. I played for a while but currently have an inactive account. However she told me that in a new (upcoming) update villians and heros will have the ability to defect and go over to Paragon City or the Rouge isles. I may start playing agian just to try this feature. I have of course also played WoW and no offense to anyone that plays that, but I just found it really, really dull.
I think all you guys are great and would like to hook up with some or all of you in a game.

I'm waiting for Champions to go live to hold me over.

No as far a she is concerned there simply are no other games. However I do have former Super/Villian Group freinds that have or are Beta Testing CO and most of them are not pleased. Obviously we are still in the Beta testing phase and it may improve greatly upon launch. I know I am planning on trying it. I am just merly telling you what I have heard.

Well, I currently hold an account with City of Heroes and am also Beta testing Champs. Mind you, I do beg to differ with your friend. To be honest, I really don't see, to the extent, the belly aching that is going on with a lot of the testers. I am not one to be easily impressed and to date, Champs impresses me. But one poster said it best. "I have beta tested many games and one thing I can honestly say, through years of testing, that no game ever comes out the way it should when it is released. I have yet to see a game do so."

Many people also failed to take into consideration what happens when a big name game company buys up a little one; money, money, money.... Just a fact of life. The game will be good, of that I can say.

To date, COH is the only pay to play mmo I'm in. I've tried a few of the "so called" free ones, but they just didn't grab my interest, or only held it for a short while. Did try Age of Conan, but menh. Wasn't what I'd hoped it to be, but it does have great future potential.....

Anywhoo, I will be an account holder for both champs and STO and am really looking forward to this game. Also hoping, that when it comes time to Beta test, I'll make it in for that. hehe

Well I am glad to hear a positive opinion! Like I said I am planning on playing it when it launches. However I'm not real sure if I am going to keep playing when STO launches. I am pretty sure STO will eat up all my gaming time.

LOL I can totally understand, Lastline. But me, I'm a multi tasking gamer. I won't have much problem running in both. lol As for champs. yeah! There is so much more that is offered and available than COH, that I find myself getting irritated at the limited, narrow playability of coh, now. lol I've become so hooked and adapted to champs, I find myself trying to do some of the things there, in coh. Drat! I died again.... lol

Its also amazing the number of people that are hooked on the new mission architect in coh. Big whoopie, I say. It held my interest for about 3 days and then it lost its lustre. This new addition, "Going Rogue", I have a funny feeling they'll release that just before, or during, or just a few days after Champs launches. If they do it before or after, especially after, there just may be the obligatory, bullcrap excuse of, "We felt it wasn't appropriate to launch our new add on near the release date of Champions. We felt and believe that Champions should be allowed to stand and have the day for themselves." *pretend sneezes....bullshit* That's just there way of saying, if it doesn't go well, we'll give all those disappointed players something new to chew on and get back many of the people we worried about losing to Champs.....lol

I haven't even played the game but it seriously seems like Champions is everything CoH players have been asking for since launch.

LOL Here's the biggest kicker; alot of coh players are doing the most complaining about champs. Most of them are whining and suggesting that it should be more like coh..... go figure.

Ugh! Two city of...s running around? No thanks! I think DC Universe Online has that covered!

The biggest pain in beta so far, are the anti social attitudes of some of the so called, "elite players" They group with each other. Help each other and really don't bother helping any of the newbs to Beta testing. I read alot of the posts and usually sit here shaking my head chuckling at all the whining I see going on. Some of them are so absolutely sure that they can do better, it leaves me wondering why they're beta testing and not proving the cheque their mouth writes. lol

Out of curiosity what are some of the complaints?

I have been testing Champions Online for over a week now. They have
these play dates that are on PMT time and I am on EST. The game is only
operational during these play dates and at the time listed. I will
receive an E-mail that tells me when the date is what the times are and
what they are testing. The bad news for me with this is sometimes it
only gives me mere minutes to play. So far I have tested their
tutorial, certain zones and certain aspects of the game, such as
teaming. I was extremely disappointed the character creator while
better than most games did not meet my expectations. The game looked
and felt old. City of looks so much better Paragon City and the Rouge
Isles are beautiful. The world I encountered in Champions was sub-par
at best. The missions have been boring, the gameplay repative and
boring. Getting to the missions is often confusing as what needs to be
done. I had a mission where I had to rescue some people trapped from
debris of a damaged building I actually had to wait in line for my turn
to rescue these people. Most of the people in game I spoke with were
also unhappy with the game. Perhaps the game will get better, but with
a launch date right around the corner I seriously doubt it. I was
hoping for something different but really it felt a bit like a WoW
clone with superheros.


I was afraid that it was not going to be good. Cryptic had a 90%
finished Marvel Universe Online that both Microsoft and Marvel pulled
out of. So they got the rights to some other super figures and slapped
it over MUO. I went in wanting to like it but alas I simply could not.

Well, not sure about the 90 percent thing, especially when Microsoft and Marvel couldn't even agree on the licensing of the characters. Kind of hard to build a game without the heroes...

But anyway, that person sounds like one who is in love with coh. The terrain and buildings and such are sooooo much better looking. It looks much more alive then coh. Much more vibrant and colorful. And to say it looks old? How is it old is what I'd like to know. For something to be old has to be compared to something else and seeing as how its really only the second super hero game, the only one it can be compared to is COH. So if champs looks old, then so does COH. lol

Its just a classic example of people not liking change and more often than not, those who don't like the change often sit in positions of power and wealth with the game they like. Look at it this way. Now a days, in coh, for one to get any enhancements worth while, one must be with a guild that can afford to help them, or have very wealthy in game friends. For one to solo, yeah, it can be done, but its gonna be a lonnnnnggggg way to 50..

Personally and according to Emeret, the damage mitigation in coh was stupid. I've got a couple pretty good toons myself and what I've found, is there isn't much difference in taken damage with defensive powers on or off and the only way to get good damage resistance, again, I refer to the point in the previous paragraph.

Damage mitigation in champs is sooo much better. You can pretty much prevent one type of damage, lessen the damage of other effects but still always be susceptible to at least one type of damage. Works muuuuuch better. I'm not standing around taking damage from one attack and then what damage gets blocked, seeps through to damage my toon anyway.. Here's a kicker. Never much paid attention to it until recently. I had a level 15 character, in coh, going up against a baddy who was 3 levels higher than me using a level 30 plus ability. Don't make much sense to me.

In champs, the baddies have all the the same powers and abilities as heroes at the appropriate levels. Not a lvl 12 baddie using a level 20 plus power. Sure, the baddies damage capability is going to be more because they are a higher level, but at least one won't have to worry about the baddie whipping out a power they are not high enough to use..


And to compare it to WOW..... Wow! lol. I've talked to a number of people who have said that its nothing like WOW.. Man! I could run down a list of stupid, dumb, silly stuff I've seen in COH, but I'd drive myself more insane than I already am. LOL

The number of powers is one of the things people are grousing about. Being limited to seven powers is a bit much, but I can understand it. It really doesn't make any sense to have a hero with 20 plus abilities, especially when the game is based upon the table top rp game, Champions. Heck, in Marvel, heroes have certain powers and that's it Cyclops has his concussive eye beam, which he can vary the level of its strength. Hulk has strength and endurance, Captain America has agility and his shield and so on and so on. Personally, I think they could expand it to 9 but I'm fine with seven and having a few extra powers I can have to change to if I'm having rough time on a mission, which I've done.

Personally, I'm not one to ignore change and Champions has alot to offer and a lot of things which are just so much better. Sure, it will be jagged around the edges once its released, but so was any other mmo out there. Yes, the mission are rough, so what? Yes, there are some glitches here and there, again, so what! I'm looking beyond that, at the game it could and can become and as I said before, I'm not one who's easily impressed, but so far, Champs has made me go....WOW!

I'm sorry, but I think the writer of that post went in with a biased opnion. Don't mean to step on any toes, just my opinion...

lol, just kidding! Very good in depth post here. I don't know if this person is in love with CoH, right now he spends most of his MMO time bouncing between Pirates of the Caribbean Online and Dungeon Runners. I am glad to see that CO has impressed you and that you enjoy it! This gives me hope for when they let ole Lastline run loose!

LOL funny guy.. Thanks. Yeah! I believe champs has lots to offer and even if she is put out half baked, it will be no different than coh. But you can almost guarantee that things will be added fairly quickly within the first year of release. hehe

Anybody heard of or played this one: http://www.fallenearth.com// It looks cool, but I was hoping to get some feedback from somebody who has actually played it.

Nobody? Ok, when I get some extra game time I will check it out and report back.

Has anyone seen the trailers for the game Bayonetta so far it looks like a fanboy's wetdream lol.
