Jayne Emma Merrit commands the U.S.S. Galileo, a science reconnaissance and medical rescue vessel.
Both her Betazoid parents were star fleet officers and she was born on the U.S.S Hadrian where her parents served until transferred to Star Fleet Acadmey when Jayne Emma (Jemma to her parents) was eight years old. Her mother, Elayne is a doctor, and her father Aidan, a member of the Diplomatic core. Her mother now teaches at the academy and her father is either at the academy lecturing, or on assignment for diplomatic missions.
Jayne grew up in San Francisco, California and was destined to attend Star Fleet Academy when she was old enough to be officially accepted. She graduated with high honors, and has distinguished herself in many battles on the frontier. A rising star in the fleet, she has been advancing quickly through the ranks.
At 27 years of age, she finds herself in command of the U.S.S. Galileo. She is good friends with Gordon Lightfoot, another Betazoid raised on Earth, now in command of a starship. Finding they had much in common they began assisting each other in their exploration tasks, finding that their battle skills complimented each other, and that together they were a formidable match for most enemies they encountered.
Recently Starfleet requested her to report to Serenity Station for some routine repairs and maintenance; while there she would be on call to both the needs of the station and Starfleet.
