Great TV shows no one watches

Post by Truth Seer on Mon Dec 21, 2009 10:27 pm

Inspired by the Best Movies Other People have Not Seen thread. Anyone have a tv series they love that no one seems to have heard of?

And I mean other than Firefly. Smile

    For me personally it's:

Sons of Anarchy- Best American tv show right now imo.

    and

Skins - a BBC show. Just finished seasons 1&2, sad ending.

I haven't read the books but I've been watching the series. Pretty good, though I wish it was on at a better time.

I love this show but maybe it is because I haven't read the books. Seems like they always ruin it when they create a TV show out of a book that you really like.

I liked "The Dresdon Files" but they don't make it anymore, would have liked it to continue.

New season of Skins just started over here in the UK, and I believe it's a Channel 4 production, not BBC...

Sons of Anarchy just started here the other week and is quite enjoyable...

I would have to say Castle, only because it's not screened in the UK, so I have to obtain the episodes by slightly nefarious means Wink

You're now my favorite person in the fleet. Smile

All of those shows are great, especially Skins and SoA. Unfortunately with Skins I'm in the same situation you are with Castle. Even more unfortunately 4oD is region locked. But I don't believe Hulu.com is so you might want to try them for Castle episodes.

It would be so cool if iTunes would put up the episodes as they air.

Hulu is also region locked unfortunately, but thankfully it doesn't take that long after the showing date for me to get hold of the latest episode and hide it away on my HDD Wink

I know there is a way to "open" region locked sites if you are outside the region. I have no experience of doing it myself, but I believe it has something to do with going through a proxy server from that region, effectively fooling the website into thinking you are somewhere you are not...

If you happen to have Netflix you can stream all of the episodes so far and they also update the list each week. Otherwise try Surfthechannel.com.

Dresden Files was good. There was a show called Manimal about a millionare detective that could transform into different animals, but that was many years ago.

I also really liked that MTV video show Video Mods. They were pretty cool and can be seen on youtube, for the most part.

Being a teacher, I liked Boston Public a lot and I loved My So Called Life. I can't believe that got cancelled.

For our friends on their regular side of the pond, (that means you Brits.) give this a try. Should get through region locking if you're on windows.

I miss Automan. (And I remember Manimal too!)
But, just to keep my usual childhood nostalgia going, I managed to get a copy of the complete series of Mysterious Cities Of Gold on DVD late last year.

I am suprised no one has mentioned Torchwood. Even thouh there were only 2 full seasons and the 5 week Childeren of Earth season, I think it was one of the smartest shows out there. Actually just about anything on BBC America is good, but that is just my thought.
A few others I like, in no particulear order.....
    Farscape
Stargate : SG1 and Atlantis jury is still out on SGU
    White Collar and Burn Notice
Oh and just about any series from the 80's, including Automan and Manimal..... yes I remember them as well

Dang! someone beat me to Torchwood. Waiting for the 4th season now that I am getting BBC Amercia. I love that show, well maybe I just love Eve Myles, or maybe it's the interaction between Captain Jack and Gwen, either way it's good to watch.

I get the funny feeling that it's unlikely given that RTD seems to have cut ties with the BBC (it's all very amicable on paper, but there's definite hints of tension there).

Last I heard they had aready started filming Season 4, I would like to see how Torchwood 3 recovers from what happened to the Hub during "Children of Earth". There's also rumblings that RTC is in talks with Fox about making an American version of Torchwood. Considering Torchwood's adult themes and Fox's issues with running Sci-Fi shows correctly, I really hope that doesn't happen. I'd rather just watch Eve Myles all day

Hell no. Whilst the Eighth Doctor himself was awesome, the surrounding story was horrible. Let's not ever go through that again.
Still wishes that Joss Whedon would offer to write Ripper, then be asked to contribute to Moffat's Who... *goes giddy with the possibilities*
