Re: Ship weapons
Depends on your ship and build for which is best.
I only really use cannons on my defiant and kdf carrier (I wanted something looking like galactica) and turrets on the back.
Dual Heavy mounted all at the front, but the defiant is specced with high powered engines and rcs thrusters, meaning she turns like a psyco and can keep the narrow angle facing forward for the strafing runs, and also use cannon scatter volley and cannon rapid fire to bombard them.
However, for larger, less manouverable ships, the heavy cannons would probably be better, cos although they don't have quite the firing rate of the DHC, they do provide a wider firing arc.
If you have 2 boffs setup with cannon rapid fire, you can pretty much keep spamming them. I haven't noticed a problem with them reloading, but it can be trickey to keep them targeted within the 45 degree angle.
