Full name: Richard Norvo Cameron
Rank: Lieutenant Commander
Ship: U.S.S. D.C. Fontana (Miranda-class frigate)
Position: Science Officer and Acting First Officer
Age: 25
Gender: Male
Species: Trill/Human hybrid
Father: Dr. David Cameron (Terran), retired Starfleet, Private Practice, San Francisco, California, Earth, Sol system. (formerly assigned to U.S.S. Richard Garriott and Serenity Station)
Mother: Cmdr. Ziranne Raye* (joined Trill), Professor of Astrophysics, Starfleet Academy, San Francisco, California, Earth, Sol system. (formerly assigned to U.S.S. Richard Garriott and other vessels)
Richard Cameron was literally conceived in an escape pod. His father, the doctor of the U.S.S Richard Garriott and mother, the Richard Garriott's science officer, both escaped the destroyed ship in the same pod. Nine months later, young Richard was born on the old Serenity Station, with Dr. Amy Weaver assisting in the delivery. He grew up splitting time in between both parents, part of the time with Dad at Serenity Station, part of the time with Mom on whatever starship she served on.
He had a natural aptitude for science, owing to both parents. Mom encouraged his interest in exploration. Working with his dad at Serenity Station, he learned to improvise a fix for any problem. And growing up not quite accepted by Trills or Humans helped him develop a thick skin.
He enrolled in Starfleet Academy when he was old enough, scoring high on science and command exams, and was assigned to the U.S.S. Dom Henrique Infante after graduation and a few training cruises. He became the ships science officer and was promoted to lieutenant (JG) after the previous one developed a nasty infection and died on an away mission to an uncharted planet. He helped adjust the transporters to decontaminate the strange virus on beam-up, which allowed the ship to complete it's exploration of the planet. He garnered a reputation for helping the crew solve complex scientific problems.
Unfortunately, the Dom Henrique Infante was destroyed on a mercy mission to Cardassian space when the ship was caught in the crossfire of rival factions. Cameron was one of the few survivors. He was rescued by Firefly Fleet ships and was taken back to Serenity Station to recuperate. While officially on medical leave, he assisted the crew of Serenity Station in getting rid of a Beta Renner-type energy lifeform that was causing blackouts on the station. During this crisis, he met his love interest, Ensign (now Commander) Carter, herself a child of two worlds.
After a temporary assignment to Serenity Station, he went away as a science officer on a deep space assignment on the U.S.S. Roberto Orci for a while, eventually being promoted to Lieutenant Commander. While he finally felt like he had his dream job, this would not last. Tensions in Klingon space and the destruction of Romulus due to the Hobus Supernova would force the Federation to scale back long-term expeditions. He was re-assigned to the D.C. Fontana as their science officer and second officer. The D.C. Fontana's first officer was recently promoted and given command of his own ship, so Cameron is filling the role of first officer for now until the red tape clears up.
Personality: Tends to be a little more emotional and less clinical than most Federation science officers. Gets along with most folks. Can be frosty at first towards people he doesn't know, but he eventually comes around. Not easily riled up.
Friends/Relationships: Has a few friends from his academy days on other ships. The only other survivors of the Dom Henrique Infante he knew well was an Andorian named Nesza Takerra, who was the ship's security chief, and an unjoined Trill research assistant named Ariyis Didul. Longtime Serenity Station personnel like engineering Lt. Bozoel Omiza (a motherly Bajoran whom Cameron refers to as "Aunt Omiza") remember him from when he was a kid. Has on again-off again relationship with Carter. Relates better to his dad than his mom, mainly because he views his mom as pushy and nagging. (Yes, he loves deep space exploration, but he also enjoys the side benefit of being away from her.)
Likes: Sodas (Texas Cane Sugar Soda** in particular, especially if he has to pull double watches), Tea, Puzzles, all types of Science, unknown phenomena. Also likes playing soccer and watching American football and is a fan of both Chelsea F.C. and the Dallas Cowboys. Plays 3-D Go. Favorite holodeck programs are soccer simulations and JRPGs (or whatever their 25th century equivalent is).
Dislikes: routine and paperwork (which are unfortunately a constant annoyance in Starfleet). Any discussion of "joining" (sore subject). Manchester United, the Redskins, the Eagles, and the Giants
Miscellaneous: He's not a very good shot with a hand phaser. It took him several tries to post a qualifying score for type I and II phasers, but he's gotten better as time goes on. Always suggested unconventional strategies.
* - This is *not* Jadzia Dax's sister mentioned in the DS9 episode "Body Parts". I only knew a handful of Trill first names, and just happened to pick that one. As for the symbiote's name... I wasn't sure of naming conventions, all the one's i've ever seen were no more than 4 letters and one or two syllables (Dax, Odan, etc.), so I tried to go with that.
