Not being a fan of the comic, and only going by the previews, I skipped The Watchmen at the movies and didn't plan on seeing it; however, I read a few reviews of the writer and the director and decided to watch the 180 minute directors cut version last night. Wow. It was a beautiful movie and the effects, while playing second to the story, were good. But 3 hours was way too long for this story. I really liked parts, but kept thinking that this would have been a really good 2 hour movie. It reminded me so much of "The Tick", but a serious version of it.
Anyone see the 2 hour version or 3 hour? Wondering if its worth watching again in a shortened format.

I saw the shortened version. It was pretty good, I thought.

I've seen the shorter one and loved it, the extended addition is on it's way from Netflix.

I also loved the comics. The length is probably more tolerable if you liked the comics since the movie is almost frame by frame for most of it.

I liked the movie Wanted, so I started reading the comic. I think there are 8 and I'm on 2 right now. It's very very dark and very good.

Watchmen was and is an awesome movie. Don't care about length and stuff like that, the plot was awesome, character development superb and the story was written really well. A great "what if" type of situation. I especially love the way they dealt with Rorshcach; made him to appear as though he was some kind of dark, bad hero, but in the end, proved to be the truest hero. Dying for his beliefs.

"No compromise. Even in the face of Armageddon!" Totally wicked!!!! Watchmen Icon_cheers Watchmen Icon_cheers

So, like in the end, when the paper is going to go through the journal, do they let out the news of who actually caused the destruction? Is that in the comic book?

The comic doesn't give a definitive answer either on what will happen. Which I liked.

My only gripe with the movie was that they changed the Rorschach's first kill scene. That really did not need to be changed.
