    ship Ive been workin on in my spare time for the last few weeks, not the quick and dirty x-class concept

    18,183 polys

    USS Farscape.

    Fast assault cruiser, size of voyager

    6 Forward torpedo tubes, 2 rear

    Yeah i can't understand why they too it off air.It had a great plot alot of action and some very memorable characters.

    Not trying to be rude or anything like that, Duke. But I've noticed your recent model looks kind of lumpy in spots. Is there a reason for that, or is it because its a rough draft and not a final render, per say..?

    Im still new to max and no matter how much I edge loop, cut down and add in polys, some areas refused to smooth out. Believe me, if I put this up on 3d artisans, there wouldnt even be ashes left.

    Maby if I sent it into 3d coat or mudbox Id be able to smooth it out more but I hate mudbox and only been workin with 3d coat for a few weeks.

    Oh, and each part, Saucer, Hull, Nacelle, all started as boxes. Its a much better way to start from a box then a sphere. But that would also account towards the smoothing problems.

    Have you played with the angle of the smoothing groups? Try playing with it and see if your results improve. Also keep your basemesh low poly till you're adding in the final details. Working with a low poly mesh is way easier than trying to tweak highpoly.

    Also have you played with Maya at all? It's highpoly preview mode is a real nice feauture since you can jump between low and high poly in a second and see where issues are arising with the hit of a key...
    Most of this tuts on this site are crazy basic, and old, but the modeling ones might at least provide you some insight into their workflow...

    I dont have the money for maya. What I love about 3d coat, now that I have the full pro version, I never have to pay for upgrading it like I would with Max and its a modeler, sculpter, painter, retopo, ect. Everything but animation, which I need to get Blender for.

    My pipeline of programs when I get them all payed for and all will be photoshop> 3d coat> blender > unity. Hell, I probly wont need unity...


    I did wait till I had all the details fixed in and all before I started edge looping the hell out of it, got rid of a few odd spots but not all. Thats actually my first major model like that now that I think of it. As in first high poly not used as a base to retopo, paint and animate for class.

    Im going to work on it more this weekend when/if I have time. See what I can do with taking it into coat.
