Elder Scrolls Online

Anyone else besides me drooling over the thought of playing ESO? I've been following a podcast called Elder Scrolls off the Record (link here) and it's sounding quite awesome. I signed up for the beta back in January and invites started going out in March so hopefully something comes of it. I'm itching to check it out

Signed up for Beta! Sure it doesn't mean anything but I got an "Excellent" rating.

After listening to all of the interviews and information I'm ready to freeze myself until release. This is going to be awesome! They even got 1st Person view in after they said a couple months ago they didn't think they could. I honestly think ZOS is listening to the fans and making changes that they cry for. Originally there was NO crossing into a rival factions territory and NO cross-faction chat. They changed that to both being available when you hit 50, along with even being able to join rival faction members in dungeons *squee* There's a lot more info describing how things will work, what they've promised and followed through with but people would glaze over.

And this is what it looks and plays like in closed beta. I can't imagine how much better it'll be in open beta and release.

I noticed my Keyboard was wet and I realized I was drooling!

Zenimax did a live stream from QuakeCon today for about a half hour. The video on Twitch is over an hour long and full of information about the game, but if you want to dive right into todays presentation skip to 41 minutes in. It starts with Pete Hines introducing the game and Paul Sage to the crowd.

My take on it was "wow!" I didn't really notice too many differences from playing Oblivion and Skyrim. It honestly looked like an Elder Scrolls game but online. I know they keep saying that but after watching them play, that's what it looked like. Some Skyrim stuff tossed into Oblivion is what I saw. I didn't even realize Nick was playing in first person until the Quest Gaming Network tweeted about it - that's how natural it seemed. I was blown away with how fast he was able to switch from dual wielding to ranged while tossing a spell or two at different times.

Spring 2014 can't get here soon enough.

That's not bad news. Believe it or not, sub games actually cost you less money in the long run. This means that with your subscription everything will be included. There will be nothing else to buy.

True, but with F2P games *I* choose when I want to spend money when I can afford it. If I want to play for a week then not touch the game for a couple months it's OK since I'm not paying monthly. With a sub I can't play for a minute without spending $15. That's OK for the first few months but later on when the novelty wears off I'll be stuck.

I'd still be dabbling in EVE and WoW if it wasn't for the subscription requirement.

Once you pay for the month you can go back in to your account and remove your payment info. The month is already paid and than you have thirty days to decide if indeed you wish to continue to play. This way if you choose to go play something else you don't have to worry about them taking the money and you not being there.

Also most P2P games have by monthly, half year and yearly subscription options. And hopefully even a lifetime sub option. These other options while initially expensive turn out to be less costly than paying a monthly charge.

There are also other advantages to a sub based game. But seriously come on its ESO! I mean...its ESO.
