Could someone else have a go at it (preferably on a lowish-level character) and see how they get on? I'd like to know whether the level matching is faulty on this mission or I've just equipped my ship all wrong. Mind you, I usually get on passably well in space battles, so I'm inclined to suspect a bug.
I know there's one bug, anyway - if you fail the mission you can't turn it in in the usual way, you have to drop the mission. (Couldn't say whether it turns in properly if you succeed - I've never got that far!)
WARNING: WALL OF TEXT! I do Traelus almost every day. It's not bugged but it IS tricky. You're hardly the first to have difficulties with it, believe me. And even when you've sussed it it can still beat you, sometimes. It's designed to be difficult, consequently the level of difficulty scales with you across the board. In other words as you level not only do the opponents get tougher... they get smarter. It's one mission in this game that can ALWAYS be a challenge.
So let's go thru it as I'm sure there are others who will benefit from this as well. First, remember that the True Way are primarily bent on taking out the satellites... and they're fanatics (think suicide bombers). So you have to balance attack with pulling aggro because you have to keep them focused on you and not the satellites. Secondly bear in mind that, while the cruisers have power, the escorts have high DPS. I usually work on taking the cruisers out, first, then focus on escorts... but you have to be quick. One thing to watch for... don't let a battle pull you too far away from the satellites! I've lost doing that... get so intent on one cruiser and when you finally kill it realize you're 15k or more from the satellites. By the time you can get back it's just in time to watch the satellites (with your away team) go *POP*!
Some of the following you already know but I'm gonna walk thru the mission for the benefit of anyone who hasn't done it yet. As you first come in to the system you'll see asteroids everywhere and the first of 3 satellites ahead of you. As you approach each satellite you'll trigger a menu of repair options. On the first satellite the order is critical. You have to select the 4 options in the following order: bottom, top, bottom, final. Do it in any other order and you run the risk of damaging the satellite whereupon you have to mine the asteroids for heavy metals to repair it. The second satellite is straight on and you get 3 options there. The order, there, is not critical but I usually do it: middle, top, bottom as that makes the most sense. The third satellite is hard to starboard from there (you'll see it).
I usually come to a full stop even with that satellite. You'll be prompted to scan it then to beam over a repair team. As soon as your team beams over the countdown to attack starts (before beam over you can sit there all day). Just before the first of two waves shows up you'll get a flyover message above (unless you have this feature turned off). That's important because if you command a ship with cloaking capability you DON'T want to cloak until that message pops up to tell you the True Way are attacking because the pop-up will decloak you. I usually sit and wait till the first ships appear incoming. The reason is because if you start moving too soon you will be likely to engage further away from the satellites and increase the risk of being drawn too far away.
Once the ships appear I usually go after the starboard ship first. That's because the 2nd wave will come in from port. Fire every weapon and damage buff you have and take this cruiser out as fast as you can. DON'T get drawn away. It will try to pull you away. If it does leave it and round on the other one (which, at this point, will probably be focusing on the satellite). Otherwise take the first cruiser out then round on the second. At this point the 2nd wave will appear. It will be 3 ships, usually some mixture of escorts and small cruisers or just escorts (such as 2 Jem Hadar bugships and a larger escort/cruiser). Finish off the 2nd of the first two cruisers but try to stay in the middle of the ships as you will tend to pull their attention away from the satellite that way. Remember that 2nd cruiser WILL try and pull you away... don't. Once you finish the 2nd cruiser you can start on the escorts. They're a lot more fragile and should go a lot quicker. All else being equal you would normally focus on the three escorts first... but the cruisers have spiral wave disruptors while the escorts are usually sporting polaron beams. Those spiral waves can eat that satellite up faster than the polaron beams.
Above all you must do everything you can to try and draw their attention away from the satellites. Cannon Scatter Volley and Torpedo Spread are very good as are any AOE attacks you may have (such as Harp'Engh torps). You also have to keep your shields and hull buffed and try and keep an eye on the satellites health (if possible... usually you're too busy). If you fail, if the satellite gets *POPPED*, then, yes, you have to drop the mission and start over. That's not a bug. It's designed that way. The GOOD thing is that if you DO fail you can drop it and start over right away... there's no cool-down timer on failure... just on success.
If you have any questions post here or feel free to email me in game, message me here or hit me up in game. I've never tried it as a team however in teaming the enemies will increase, the difficulty will increase (even if you are matched to a lower level teammate) and the tactics may be different. I'm not really sure if you can team for that mission, anyway, but I'd be happy to give it a try, however it may not help you beat it solo. Q'pla and good hunting!
