    Farewell to City of Heros

Post by Lastline on Fri Aug 31, 2012 4:14 pm

I don't know what made me do it, I've been away from the game for a while. But for whatever reason I stopped by the CoH/V website what I read there almost made me throwup.

Farewell, from all of us at Paragon Studios

This morning we announced that Paragon Studios will be taking to the skies of City of Heroes for the last time.

In a realignment of company focus and publishing support, NCsoft has made the decision to close Paragon Studios. Effective immediately, all development on City of Heroes will cease and we will begin preparations to sunset the world's first, and best, Super Hero MMORPG before the end of the year. As part of this, all recurring subscription billing and Paragon Market purchasing will be discontinued effective immediately. We will have more information regarding a detailed timeline for the cessation of services and what you can expect in game in the coming weeks.

The team here at Paragon deserves special praise for all that we have accomplished over the last 5+ years. These developers are some of the most creative and talented people in the gaming industry. By now, we've all been given this news internally, but to anyone who may be reading this message after the fact; know that your hard work and dedication has not gone unappreciated or unnoticed. To any potential studios looking to grow your team; hire these people. You won't regret it.

    To our Community,

Thank you. Thank you for your years of support. You've been with us every step of the way, sharing in our challenges, encouraging us to make City of Heroes better, more than everyone else thought it could be. We couldn't have come this far without you. I implore you all, focus on the good things of CoH and Paragon Studios. Don't dwell on the "how" or the "why", but rather join us in celebrating the legacy of an amazing partnership between the players and the development team.

Thank you, and I'll see you in the skies, one last time.

    Paragon Studios.

I didn't know a thing about CoH when I bought it in the stores in the first weeks after its release. But what I played was amazing. I was there for the fall of the fifth column and the amazing ride of the rouge isles. I played the game on and off, always comming back and finding familar and comfortable surroundings. And feeling a little sad that places like the Hollows were little used anymore.

CoH really put the MMO community on its collective arse. For the first time you could fully customize your toon to the finest point. Gone were the days of you having to watch for a floating bubble icon to pick your freind from a crowd. Than came fully customizable bases and finally fully customizable weapons and power sets. Wow.

In CoH I ran a superhero group, a super villian group. Built bases from scratch. Went sking, skydiving, swimming. Delighted at collecting badges, flying through the sky, battling bad guys, outdoing good guys and teaming with many many freinds. In fact in the early years of the game as part of my subscription a actual comic book based upon the game was sent to my house by mail. I shall treasure these, and the many, many screenshots I took always.

There never was an MMO like city of, and I doubt there ever will be agian. The city is free to play and download, if you havent ever played I suggest you do before its gone forever. If you have than pop in on your (i'm sure) many characters and say goodbye.

So long Paragon City and the Rouge isles i'm truly sorry that I never became a strong enough hero to save you.

So sorry to hear that. I think I created a character there a couple of years ago. Right after I discovered Champions then DCU Online. After that I played DCUO exclusively and never went back to the others. I do know that was the first online game my son-in-law got hooked on years ago. (he's now banned from playing online games.... IF he wants to stay married that is heheheheh). I played DCUO heavily right up until I joined STO back in January. To be honest I haven't really looked in on any of my old games much since then. But it's sad to see CoH/V go as they were one of the earliest and best...

James T. Kirk: "Excuse me… Excuse me. I’d just like to ask a question… What does God need with a starship?" Shocked
ZOE: "Sir... you paid money for this? On purpose?"

Schrödinger's cat has announced it WILL be attending the funeral
    So very pretty

That is sad. I was in beta on CoH and my toons: Scary Clown, Rabbi Goldberg and Silver Samurai were completely awesome.
