Here is everything you need to know about guilds in SW;TOR

Post by Pyriel32 on Tue Mar 15, 2011 8:05 am

    What is Guild Headquarters (HQ)?

The Guild Headquarters is a central location on Star Wars: The Old Republic website to support pre-launch guild creation, recruitment, and administration.

Why create guilds before the game launches?

Creating guilds before the game launches offers Star Wars: The Old Republic community the opportunity to reserve guild names and establish or join a group with similar in-game goals pre-launch so you are organized and ready to play on launch day!

What is a guild and why should I create or join one?

A guild is a group of players who socialize in the game and play together to achieve their goals. Joining a guild is not essential to in-game progression. However, it is an excellent way to meet new people and team up to accomplish in-game group goals. Guilds have access to organizational tools in the game that allow them to coordinate easily, like a private chat channel and list of online members. To learn more about guilds in Star Wars: The Old Republic, visit the Guild Systems page.

What is the Pre-Launch Guild Program and why are there multiple phases?

The Pre-Launch Guild Program allows players to create guilds pre-launch. Players can reserve their desired guild name, recruit other players to join their guild, and socialize with each other on private message boards before the game is launched.
Launching the program in phases allows players to organize their guilds and begin to decide guild strategies prior to the launch of the game. Each of the three phases will introduce new options and features for guilds. More detailed information on each phase can be found below.

What languages are supported on guild sites and forums?

Just as with our community forums, the guild sites and forums support English, French, and German.

    Phase 1 - Formation

    Skip to:

General Questions

Phase 2 - Alignment

Phase 3 - Deployment
    • Guild Leadership

    What is Phase 1: Formation?

During this phase, players begin creating guilds and inviting others to join them. Players can search listed guilds for one that fits their needs and play style or in-game goals.

How do I create a guild?

To create a guild, visit the main Guilds HQ page and click "Create My Guild!" You'll be asked to fill out a simple form, and then you'll be on your way to guild leadership!

How do guild sites and forums work?

Guild sites are maintained by guild leaders and provide information about individual guilds and the tools to administer them. When you create a guild, a site is automatically created for your guild! Each site contains public and private forums. Public forums are visible to anyone browsing the guild listings and can contain further guild information or questions from prospective members. Private forums are only viewable by the guild members of each individual guild, which allow them to socialize, plan, and discuss recruitment.

    Can I leave a guild?

Yes. If you wish to leave your guild, simply visit your guild's homepage and click "Withdraw from this guild." You are then free to apply to and join another guild.

Why are there multiple server types?

Star Wars: The Old Republic will offer different server types that emphasize different styles of game play such as Player-vs-Environment, Player-vs-Player, and Role- Play. When your guild gets transferred into the game, it will be placed on the server type that most matches your selection.
Player-vs-Environment (PvE) servers can be considered representative of the standard play style and rule set. The focus on PvE servers is on experiencing the story and working with friends against the non-player enemies in the game world.
Player-vs-Player (PvP) servers have a slightly different rule set as PvE servers. On a PvP server, players may be attacked by other players from the opposing faction in more areas of the game world.
Role-Playing (RP) servers use the standard PvE rule set, but are identified as great places for players who enjoy acting out their characters in the game world to congregate and find other like-minded players.
*We will make reasonable efforts to ensure that qualifying guilds are imported into a server that meets your specified preferences, but we cannot make any guarantees given the anticipated volume of guilds (among other factors). All server placements therefore remain in our sole discretion. We also cannot take responsibility for technical errors or glitches that prevent your guild from importing into the game as planned. See Terms of Service for more details.

If I join a guild, will all my characters be automatically placed in that guild?

No. The first time you log in to the server your guild has been placed on with a character, that character will be asked if they would like to join that guild. If that character accepts and joins the guild, no further characters you create on that server with your account will be prompted. Your guild leader or officers will be able to invite additional characters from your account to the guild later.

How many players can be in a guild?

A guild in Star Wars: The Old Republic can have 500 individual characters enlisted at a time. Before the game launches, each website account that joins your guild occupies one of these slots. Remember - if you expect to allow multiple characters from one account (alts) into your guild when the game launches, you should monitor your pre-launch guild's members accordingly!

How many guilds can I apply to and join?

You can join one guild per each Star Wars: The Old Republic website account. You can only apply to one guild at a time with your account, but you may change your current application to another guild or leave your current guild at any time and apply to another. This limit only applies to the Pre-Launch Guild Program. In the live game, you will be able to join multiple guilds. Any of the characters you create can join other guilds.

If I don’t join or create a guild through this program, will I still be able to join or create a guild in the game?

Yes! When the game launches, you will be able to join and create guilds within the game.

How do I apply to and join a guild?

First, use the guild search tool to find a guild you'd like to join. You can set several search parameters that can help you find exactly the kind of guild you'd like to join. From the guild's site, you can learn more about the guild, post questions on their public forum, and submit an application to the guild leader. The guild leader can approve or deny your request.

My desired guild name is unavailable. What do I do?

If your desired guild name is not available, the maximum number of allotted registrations for that name has been reached. You can use the guild search tool to find the guilds registered under that name and request to join one if you'd like to - you might meet some new friends! If not, you are encouraged to choose a different guild name.

What are the best ways to recruit guild members?

To recruit for your guild, the most important thing you can do is to make sure that all of your information is complete and that it accurately represents your guild, its goals, and its rules. Also, ensure that your "currently recruiting" status is set to "yes" in the administration options (this option is set to "yes" as default). Other players are able to search for guilds and will find your guild more easily if your information is complete and detailed. By answering questions you get on your mini-site's public forum and by being active and engaged, you'll find it easier to recruit. You can also use our recruitment forum to generate more interest in your guild. The more you participate in the community, the more likely you and your guild will get noticed!

How many guilds can I create?

You are able to create one guild at a time per account. If you abdicate your leadership and leave the guild, you may create another guild.

    Phase 2 - Alignment

    Skip to:

General Questions

Phase 1 - Formation

Phase 3 - Deployment
    • Guild Leadership

    What is Phase 2: Alignment?

This phase introduces a new, optional system that allows your guild to mark other guilds as allies or adversaries. When the game launches, these designations will influence which guilds are placed on the same server.
*We will make reasonable efforts to place as many qualifying groups of allies and adversaries as possible together on the same server. Given the volume of anticipated guilds (as well as other factors), we unfortunately cannot guarantee that all specified allies and adversaries will be placed on your server.

    Can our guild change factions?

No. Once a faction – Republic or Empire - is selected and a guild is created, that guild's faction may not be changed.

Are allies and adversaries guaranteed to be placed on the same server?

We will work to place as many groups of allies and adversaries as possible on the same server. There is no guarantee that all allies and adversaries will be placed on the same server.

How many allies and adversaries can a guild have?

A guild may designate a total of three allies and/or adversaries.
*We will make reasonable efforts to place as many qualifying groups of allies and adversaries as possible together on the same server. Given the volume of anticipated guilds (as well as other factors), we unfortunately cannot guarantee that all specified allies and adversaries will be placed on your server.

What are the differences between allies and adversaries?

Allies are guilds that have chosen the same allegiance as your guild. Adversaries are guilds that have chosen the opposite alignment. For instance, two Empire guilds are allies, and a Republic guild and an Empire guild can be adversaries.

When will Phase 2: Alignment begin?

A date has not yet been determined for the beginning of Phase 2, but this phase will occur before launch. The website will be updated with information for guild members and leaders about the new features available during this phase.

    Phase 3 - Deployment

    Skip to:

General Questions

Phase 1 - Formation

Phase 2 - Alignment
    • Guild Leadership

    What is Phase 3: Deployment?

During this phase, guilds that meet certain criteria will be transferred into the game. Your guild’s mini-site and forums will remain available on the website. However, guild creation and administration features will be removed from the website and moved in-game.

When will Phase 3: Deployment begin?

This phase will begin shortly before the launch of the game, giving guild leaders enough time to make sure their guilds meet the criteria for transfer into the game.

Is my guild* guaranteed to be transferred into the game and what are the criteria our guild needs to meet for the transfer?

All* guilds that meet the following criteria will get transferred into the game: 1) At the beginning of Phase 3, the guild leader must log in to the website and verify that their guild remains active and wants to be imported; and 2) The guild has at least four members who have pre-ordered the game by the time we initiate the import. Details about Star Wars: The Old Republic pre-order program will be provided at a later date.

How will a server be chosen for my guild?

When we begin placing guilds on servers, we will take into account all the information that has been provided, including the server type and the allies and adversaries you have selected. We will make reasonable efforts to place each guild according to their specified preferences but cannot make any guarantees given the anticipated volume of guilds (among other factors).

What if our guild is transferred into the game during Phase 3, but then our guild leader does not buy the game and log in at launch?

If your guild has been imported into the live game during Phase 3, then you have two weeks after the game’s launch for your guild leader to log in and activate your guild in the live game.
If your guild leader does not log in after two weeks, another member of your guild will be promoted to guild leader. The first officer to log in will be chosen first, but if no officers log in, the first member to join will be promoted.

Is the guild leader required to pre-order the game in order for our guild to be transferred into the game during Phase 3?

It is not a requirement for the guild leader to pre-order the game in order for your guild to be transferred into the game during Phase 3. A minimum of four guild members must pre-order the game to meet the transfer requirement. The guild leader would only be required to pre-order the game if the guild consisted of only four members.

What happens if our guild leader does not confirm that we want our guild transferred into the game during Phase 3?

If your guild leader does not confirm your guild's desire to be transferred into the game during Phase 3, your guild will not be imported into the game. Your guild leader must confirm your guild’s desire to be transferred during Phase 3.

How will my guild leader and members know when Phase 3 begins?

When Phase 3 begins, all guild members (including guild leaders) will receive an e-mail. E-mails will be sent to the address registered to each account. We will do our best to ensure that everyone has enough time to meet the criteria for transfer into the game.

    Can I disband my guild?

You can only disband your guild if there are no other members in your guild.

Can I give leadership to another player or leave a guild I've created?

Yes. In the Guild Roster, you may choose to abdicate and select another member to promote to guild leader.

Is it possible to create guilds with the same name in different factions or on different servers?

If your guild would like to be placed in different factions or on different servers when the game launches, you will need to create separate guilds for each different server and faction. The same guild name can be registered multiple times, but there is a limit on the number of times it can be registered, so make sure to secure the name for each server and faction quickly!

Do I need to create my guild in the game when it launches?

No. When you first log in to the server your guild has been transferred to, you will be prompted to join the guild with the character you've created. Since you are the guild leader, you will automatically be given the correct rank and permissions.

Can I moderate the posts people make on my guild's forum?

Yes. The guild leader and officers will have the ability to moderate their guild's forums and address inappropriate posts.

Can I change my guild details after the guild is created?

You can change many of the guild's details in the Administration section of your guild's site once the guild has been created. However, you will not be able to re-name the guild or change the guild's faction.

    How do Guild Ranks work?

Via the Guild Headquarters, guild members are organized into three ranks: member, officer, and guild leader. Only the guild leader has the ability to administer the guild site.

What features do I have access to as a guild leader?

As guild leader, you are able to administer your guild and its mini-site. From the "Administration" page, you can change many of the properties of your guild, from Guild Description to the Message of the Day. From the “Guild Roster” page, you can view and take action on applications to your guild as well as promote, demote, and remove guild members.

the cool thing though is once they go to Phase 2 of guild development we can asscoiate the "Browncoat Alliance" with "The Opaque Brotherhood". I guess that'll help in PVP situations to get us int teh same instances. I'm just guessing though. Anyone have any idea when this puppy is coming out. the only thing I can find is that it'll be sometime after Bioware's fiscal year ends, which is this month, but no info after that.
