I always enjoyed Joss' little nods to Star Trek during Buffy, but I think I might have found a more subtle one in Firefly.
I was watching Enterprise, and during the episode "Shuttlepod One" there's a scene where Reed is dreaming he's in sickbay after being rescued and he's talking to T'Pol. He mentions he's never really been fond of his first name, and T'Pol tells him that in Vulcan the word 'malcolm' means 'serenity'.
Possibly just a coincidence, but I doubt it.

Actually with Firefly, they were doing Star Wars references... or rather Nathan Fillion was. It seems our Captain Reynolds liked to sneak his Han Solo in Carbonite into various shots...

I can't believe I never noticed even one of those!

I love when they sneak things in like that.

Like in the pilot of Battlestar Galactica when a Firefly ship can be seen coming in for a landing through the window behind Laura Roslyn when she's seeing her doctor.

I did like the Serenity Flyby/Flyover in the Battlestar Miniseries. In teh other direction, there was a scene early in Nathan Fillons new series "Castle" where he is dressing up as, as he describes it, a Space Cowboy, where the girl playing his daughter gives him grief about it having been 5 years or so since he had last worn that costume. Been watching "V" for any Morena Baccairn mentions of Firefly, but haven't caught any.

"Castle" has been rife with Firefly references, the Halloween "Space Cowboy" (which was the actual costume from the show, he kept it), there have been Blue Sun references, some one has even said "Two by two, hands of blue." I think Nathan really misses that show and all of the writers are geeky geniuses.
But then again, Castle has thrown out all kinds of pop-culture references in every episode. Not too long ago Nathan's character spouted the line "here is no fear in this dojo," (The Karate Kid) to which I had to shoot tea out my nose because I wasn't expecting that... I love this show.

No seriously, he really does love Firefly... almost as much as I do.

I don't go in for internet schemes, but this is one that speaks to me on a level that I just can't say no to. I'm not recommending this for everyone, actually I'm not recommending this for anyone... unless it speaks to you. I want my own spaceship. Nathan had one and Fox took it away from him. The internet might just be able to help him get it back.

    And just because:

They've been advertising Firefly on Discovery Science channel starting March 6. As much as I like the show, I am not sure how much Discovery Science is going to get out of it, since there are only 13 episodes. Then again, it seems I watch the same 30 episodes of NCIS on the USA network, so what do I know.

Seems stuff is happening, not quite sure if I'm convinced yet, but I really want to be. If this is real, I'll gladly support this. I'm kinda hoping it's Whedon and Fillion hiding behind the anonymous identities though, even if that's unlikely.

Also just because..well, because it's like an car accident from the eightieths, you know you shouldn't watch but you can't resist.
