Re: Meldrak this is your interview
Hey Pyriel,
Thanks for the interview! I am doing great. I finished the Breen episodes that have aired so far and really enjoyed them. I finally saved up enough credits to buy a Cruiser since I am in a Science Vessel now.
I also had a great day in PVP yesterday. All in all I think I had over 20 kills in a few matches. I also watched the first Firefly episode again yesterday. I found a Firefly reference in STO a few days ago, I thought that was very cool.

Re: Meldrak this is your interview
Howdy Seeker,
My playing style? I tend to use strategy more than brute force. As a science captain I feel it is my duty to confuse the enemy, damage his subsystems, and destroy his shields as quickly as possible. I tend to let others draw the fire both in space and on the ground. When I am groundside I tend to quickly put a hold on one enemy and then try to expose another with abilities from my kit. I can quickly alternate between weapons to use exploit attacks once I see someone is exposed. To sum up my playing style in one sentence, I try to use tactics instead of just attacking blindly. This makes me useful in PVP and I can be quite useful on a good team.
As I mentioned in my application, there are several roles I might fill. After careful thought however, I feel my main role could be in being helping recruit new members to fill our ranks when needed, and then helping transition new officers into the fleet. Because of my experience as a Chat Moderator, I could also set up mini training sessions every few weeks to help train newer players and veterans alike on topics such as: how to choose a shield, or what different types of bonuses there are on weapons, etc. On a busy day I get a few messages from Firefly fans just because of my characters name, my ship name, and my crew's names which makes me specially suited to help get new Browncoats into the fleet.
I chose my character name early in beta and the first few minutes the game went live just to make sure it was mine, and I use it to help promote the Firefly 'verse in all of it's incarnations.
I hope that answers your questions.

Re: Meldrak this is your interview
Pyriel,
I missed your question at first, I guess I saw the last post and answered it.
My favorite episode is "out of gas" because we get to learn all of the backstories behind how the crew came to be together. It also shows Mal is fallible and needs to rely on his crew to help him get the job done.

Re: Meldrak this is your interview
I worked online for many years as a chat moderator and I actually never met my coworkers in person. This required a lot of different ways of handling communication between coworkers and with the team of moderators I managed. I think the primary lesson you learn as a chat mod is that you should not read between the lines of text conversations. Body language, facial expressions, tone of voice, and other subtle hints are missing that might help you determine if someone is being serious, playful, sarcastic, or is acting on any other emotion. I tend to have less problems with others for this reason.
However, conflicts always arise when people are interacting with each other in any form, so if I had a problem with someone in the fleet, or if I thought they had a problem with me; I would first attempt to remedy the problem directly with them by having a cordial and hopefully meaningful private conversation. Usually, if you talk with someone openly you can resolve almost any issue. If the behavior that led to me having an issue with that person continues after our conversation I would privately bring the matter to the attention of the appropriate fleet brass (officers). I would tell them about the problem and encourage them to handle the matter delicately and privately and them let them do their job to encourage peace and harmony in our fleet.
On a side note, I should be Commander in a few more days.

Hello and welcome I am Rear Admiral Cannons
I know where your coming from on your last answer knowing what people are saying threw chat is almost like counseling you almost have to be a psych to figure people out but once you get the practice you can get distinct impressions on how people post things. iv never worked the same position you have but i have 2 years of playing a game called second life which is not short on the drama

Re: Meldrak this is your interview
CaptCannons,
I played Second Life for awhile, and I beta tested The Sims Online. I know what you mean. Second Life had some excellent potential, especially with the areas like NASA's online museum there, etc. It got kind of weird at times, I ended up losing interest after a year or so of messing around in it.
Good to know its still going.

Re: Meldrak this is your interview
I have been fairly active in game for the last month or so. I enjoy the weekly episodes and will be on to play them whenever they come out. I hope to devote at least 2-3 nights per week playing the game, but I have been playing it for at least 4 hours a day for the past few weeks. I go camping a lot and I go out of the country for a month each year, but other than that you can expect me to be on quite a bit. My play time should be much more interesting when I have some fellow Browncoats to talk to in fleet chat, and people to team up with for PVP and PVE. Right now I am flying solo and it can be hard to find a team sometimes.
My forum use will vary but being 32 and married, you will see me in game more than on the forums. I will of course respond to any messages promptly and check the forums for important info whenever I am flying through sector.

Re: Meldrak this is your interview
Howdy,
No problem. I spend my time fairly evenly between pvp and pve. I tend to do a little more pve with the new weekly episodes but between seasons I do more pvp. I enjoy them both just as much but with a good pvp team I think it would be more fun than random strangers in the queue.
Science officers can be very handy in pvp with a good team.

Re: Meldrak this is your interview
Fleet rank is not important to me. I mainly want a group of like minded people to socialize with and run missions with. I would gladly fill any role the fleet needs my assistance with, but as an older gamer I play to have fun and I don't have a lot of time to fill any major fleet roles. I would be interested in helping newer players and being a recruit officer though.
Hope that answered your questions.
