The Taming of the New West

I just learned about this yesterday. The US Government is working on passing a Bill that will create an entity called the NCCC (National Center for Cybersecurity and Communications. The Bill is called the Protecting Cybersecurity as a National Asset Act, and would give the President of the US the power to shut down the Internet whenever he felt there was a threat.

Instead of removing systems from networks linked to the internet, they are trying to tame and control the new frontier. Personally, I don't think this is a good thing. In fact I think it's a very bad thing. But that may just be me, either way I felt compelled to share this so you can draw your own conclusions.

i hear you on that one not one person should have control over every ones leasure time as thats what the net generaly is. its anouther one of those things where the states are totaly on that control kick again they want to control every one and every thing they thing they are god and that we are the pupets. *no offense to any of our mates in the states * i just shake my head to this cause if they do do this it means they can alitterly take over complete servers any where at any time cause i do not know any computer that is not conected to the net as servers are the main thing that run the nets.

Well, not *any* servers, they have limited the language in the Bill to that of servers in the US so essentially it would be the power to stop the "American Internet." This would still have world wide effects as Cryptic and Google and Microsoft and many other big parts of the web are located here in the States. This just gives me a really icky feeling, like I need to go get an eye patch and a parrot.
