Worst ST:TNG movie

He's my reply to the same question asked on ST:O forums:

I'd have to agree, Nemisis was the worst, but pretty darn close behind is Insurrection.

My opinions for the worst on Nemisis.

#1. A dune-buggy.....really?
I mean, that far in the future, and they have a dune-buggy. Why exactly wouldn't a run-about or a shuttle work? And if Picard really wanted to drive one that bad......holodeck anyone?
#2. A Picard clone.
Ok, I can get that the Romulans thought of this great plot to replace Picard. Cool, fits in with the 'trickery and strategery' of the Romulans. (yea I know, a G.W. poke)
But the clone didn't really age. The clone is circling the drain and needs Picards blood or he dies. The clone is hell-bent on destroying Earth, yet Romulus should be his target since the Romulans created and exiled him.
#3. My God....could the villian monologing get any worse?
#4. A joystick.........Gene must have rolled in his grave. (God rest his soul)
#5. Beta was 'found' how many years after he was created.....and yet acts like a 4 year old. Ok, so maybe he was dismantled after he was created and never had any interaction with people.
Data DL's his information along with iTunes to Beta. Data dies (really...he couldn't have had an extra transporter built in? Near the very end, Beta finally starts 'remembering' the 'Data download' so it makes you wonder is Data in theroy is Beta. I don't know abou you, but I'm confused as heck on that notion.
#6. Jordi, Worf and Crusher took a major back seat in this film. Troy, Data (Beta), Riker (for the fight scene)
and Picard took the major lead roles. I love Patrick Stewart. Best Capt imho. But this movie felt like The Picard and his evil son/clone episode rather than a Star Trek Movie.
All that being said, it was a Star Trek moive. And as much as it sorta 'bit the big one', we've prolly all seen it more than once, and prolly will again. Heck, everytime I watch a Star trek movie, I have to reload SFC:3 ROFL.

I agree with alot of the points. Another question I had was... what happened to the Romulan Warbirds? Did they just not have any of those D'deridex mosters around?

I have to go with Insurrection. I wanted to like that movie but I just could not. I love the others.

Well, I liked all the star trek movies and thought they were all really well done. I really don't worry bout things that are somewhat out of place or don't make sense, star trek universe wise, I worry about the plot, the characters and how its all meshed together. If those don't, then if isn't much of a movie. hehe Just my two cents..

Nemesis was a really pretty special effects project. But otherwise lacked substance.

I would agree with that one.

I thought Nemesis was a good movie, but after I read those points, it seems somewhat farther from a good film.

haha, I agree it WAS a good movie... it just had a lot of things in it that, as fans, we had to gripe about haha... no worries buddy.


But my favorite was totally First Contact...

I liked First Contact as well. The sad part was, aside from Generations, the only other Star Trek movie I saw in theaters was Nemesis... bah... I wish I hadn't!

hehe, it was a good one on the big screen though. All of the new ones have been pretty cool to watch in theaters.

Sad to say that this is a tough one to answer - the TNG cast had so much potential, but with the exception of First Contact, I usually found the films to be something of a let down.

For me, Generations would have to be the worst - it felt too gimicky, and to me, if you're going to kill off Kirk, do it right!

You have a point there... after all... didn't Kirk always say he would die alone?

I always pictured him going out with guns/phasers blazing, taking half a fleet with him. Of course, that'd be a wee bit cliché, but come on, it's Kirk!

Sorry I was away so long. When you read the non-canon books William Shatner wrote you will find out that Kirk was resurrected by Borg nanites infused with some Romulan technology when the two factions were working together. The nanites were designed to heal Kirk and then kill him, I really don't know why, because I didn't read the first book of the series.

Interesting . . . I'll have to see if I can find them in a used bookstore at some point. Kirk resurrected = good. Romulan interference = good, so long as it's not done Nemesis style. Borg = overused during Voyager and since.

Tribble Borg = Scary.

Kirk Borg = Scarier/Awesomer.

I'm pretty sure the Romulan though process was something like this:

(1) Aquire Borg nanites

(2) Infect Dead Kirk with them.

(3) Kirk Borg Arises

(4) ???????

(5) Profit

the profit parts make it more likely a ferengi plot <_<
